KWARtET, consort & COLLEGE
(1995-2018)
From 1995-2018 I was a member and later on artistic leader of the Egidius Kwartet & College.
For over 20 years we were ‘ambassadors’ of Franco-Flemish polyphony (16th century).
But dramatic changes is the cultural climate, not only trhoughout Europe but in the Netherlands especially,
led to the decision to stop our activities.
For over two decades we made many programs, revived the interest in several ‘forgotten composers’,
we presented neglected but fantastic repertoire, we collaborated with several leading musicologists and researchers form diverse disciplines, we produced many cd’s and sang all over Europe, the USA and South-America.
All culminating in a gigantic project dedicated to the unique collection of six Leyden Choirbooks.
To see the last official curriculum of the ensemble (2016) and to know more about the origin of its name click here.
On this page one may find an overview of the history of this ensemble.
Mind you: it's still work in progress.
The first half, the years 1995-2006 are covered,
the rest, including the Leiden Choirbooks (& some of its scores) comes in due time.

The secret, indispensable and binding force behind the quartet and college was Louis Rainey, the "mother of the quartet". With total commitment, love and undefeatable enthusiasm and dedication so took care of almost everything behind the scenes. With outstanding communicational qualities and a bright and clever insight in complicated matters she guided the ensemble through good and bad times. Even after her ‘retirement’ from the managers-office she was always there, keeping the website updated, leading a great many of volunteers, and always prepared to help out when we were in need of someone. We owe so much to this lovely and caring lady. Thank you Louisa!

Throughout the years of its existence the ensemble was blessed to have had the privilege of having outstanding and competent managers.
Annette Schautt and Katja Brooymans both established, and improved an efficient and reliable back-office system. Marco van de Klundert excelled in a brilliant Leiden Choirbook campaign, and Britt Verstegen very often made the impossible possible. |
EGIDIUS: 20 YEARS OVERVIEW
CONCERT PROGRAMS: In the following overview the Egidius concert-programs are given in the order of the year of first presentation. Some programs had many representations, others less, some of them were sung just once, or were intentionally designed for a unique occasion. Over the years we also ‘recycled’ parts of different older programs in new ones.
CD’s : Our cd’s were almost always related to our activities previous to the year of release, or right after. In the following overview the order of release is given in it's context.
Many of our cd’s are still available and obtainable via Et'cetera Records: click HERE.
